Nile View Apartment, Dokki

Eleventh floor, corner aspect, and the Nile along the whole northern side. This is the flat people picture when they say they want to live in Dokki rather than a compound.

The building went up in 1971, when ceilings were 3.2 metres and balconies were deep enough to use. The previous owner restored it in 2020 with unusual restraint — original terrazzo lifted, cleaned and relaid; the mid-century joinery repaired instead of skipped; new wiring and plumbing threaded through without wrecking the plan. It is the rare Cairo renovation that did not flatten what made the flat worth having.

There is no parking bay, which in Dokki is the honest headline. Everything else about the flat is better than anything you will build new.
